Antwerp Chocolate Week

Jan Crab

Antwerp Chocolate Week is a tasting route for chocolate lovers. Stop at twenty Antwerp chocolate makers for a sample of their delicious confections.  Chocolate week starts on Friday 3 March and runs until 12 March 2017.

Buy the Chocolate Pass

You need a Chocolate Pass to participate. You can buy it from mid-January from the twenty participating and the in Grote Markt and in Central Station. The pass costs just 10 euros and contains 10 vouchers which you can exchange for some very tasty morsels at the participating chocolate makers. Most chocolatiers will give you about two euros worth of chocolate or pralines for every voucher.  You can use no more than two vouchers in any given shop. Normally you will not be required to eat the chocolate in the shop.

Includes a visit to an exhibition

Your chocolate pass comes with a brochure with information about the participating chocolate makers. You also receive a ticket (value: 10 euros) to the exhibition “Antwerp chocolate city-factory” on the first floor of Mercado in Groenplaats. In other words, you get twice your money’s worth with the Chocolate Pass.

Most people usually associate Belgium with an amazing array of excellent beers and world-renowned chocolate. Not the most evident of combinations but they do go well together. Following in the footsteps of the renowned cheesemongers' Van Tricht, the young chocolate maker Jitsk Heyninck recently moved into the buildings of the De Koninck city brewery.

Pateekesweek starts on Friday 3 March and runs until Sunday 12 February 2017. This year’s theme is innovation in pastries and cakes.

In response to 570 years of diamonds in Antwerp, an exclusive edition of the 'Antwerpse Handjes' will be issued and diamond pralines will be given a new look.
