Every year during the summer, the Zomer van Antwerpen organizes tons of events and opens 2 big locations: Zomerbar & Zomerfabriek. Both are huge summer hotspots with a bar, food stands and a place to relax. Zomerbar will open on the 6th of July and focuses more on a family aspect, circus and relaxing while Zomerfabriek opened yesterday and is more of a party hotspot! We went to see if it’s still as great as last year and we weren’t disappointed!
Zomerfabriek is the general name for the site and is located at Zurenborg. There are a lot of different things to do here. They’ve fixed days for some activities and others are a daily routine. It opens every day at 3pm and closes at 3am. And while most people come to have a drink on the huge terrace, grab a bite to eat and stay for the late night sessions (starts at 10pm), there are a lot of kids that come to enjoy the Urban Hall.
Movie Mondays : every Monday the screen a movie outside on the terrace
Youtube Tuesdays : all your favorite Youtube movies on the big screen
Grab The Mic Wednesdays : spoken word, music, ….
Global Bass Thursdays : a party hosted by Tsigani; beats and tropical basses
Future Bass Fridays : a party hosted by Soulshine; UK bass, house, funk, future sounds,…
Urban Saturdays: a party hosted by Let’s Go Urban; R&B, hip hop, …
Jukebox Sundays : a party with your own music; send them your request via Facebook
Expect to see a lot of little children (mostly boys) coming here for the Urban Sports & Culture Hall. This is a place where they can learn tricks, dance, partake in workshops or play basketball. The Zomerfabriek is divided into 2 sides so even when they are playing (from 3pm-9pm), you won’t really notice them if you just came by to have a drink.
Nulsterrenpension (Zero Star Pension) is a pop-up hostel, located on the Zomerfabriek site. You can stay the night for €18; this includes breakfast! This is also the first year you can make a reservation via (great news for tourists!) because on the weekends the pension is pretty popular. It’s a really unique place and you’ll most likely end up having 10 new friends! There are/is:
· only 35 beds
· creepy dolls on the beds and against the wall
· only 2 dorms and all the beds are different from each other
· a breakfast spot outside
· no need for a prior reservation (although full is full!), you can stay here after a night of partying
The Zomerfabriek really is like a secret tropical hotspot and definitly worth a visit!
