Once upon a Saturday, in a forest not so far away, eight friends bonded by music, threw the greenest, warmest and most stylish house party. This Is Antwerp was invited, and it sure felt like home.

Treehouses and fairy tales

Upon entering the woods of Noordkasteel, the 20th of june, we were warmly welcomed at the cozily decorated entrance of Klein House festival. It immediately aroused some nostalgic feelings to the times when we built secret treehouses as little kids. The vintage look of suitcases piled up next to a cane chair accompanied by a little dressoir with the most necessary props turned those nostalgic feelings quickly into romantic feelings. Blame it on the subtle fairy-touch of the Persian carpet, the little red flowers and the royal mirrors, but I honestly felt like kissing somebody under that beautiful chandelier swinging to the early electro beats by Alexandro Tachiyani and Notoir.

Home sweet home

The walk through the green hall way of Klein House was long, but fun guided by the tunes of upcoming artists Alexandro Tachiyani and Notoir, who by the way won the Klein House DJ contest. When the sound of the electronic beats mixed by these new talents in town became clearer, we knew we weren’t that far. We had finally reached the “living room”, the room in which everybody gathered around the stage to enjoy that good electro house music by national and international DJ’s. The lineup was upbeat and felt like a fresh summer breeze heralding the festival season. This was exactly what I needed after the hectic work flow of last week. So I just blended in with the crowd, let the music kick in, and flicked away while dancing my way straight towards the kitchen. For I was enchantingly hungry.

What’s cooking?

Seeing a counter filled with glorious food such as the brownies by and the patata bravas by , I wanted to forget about the promise I made to Kathleen right after our interview. While discussing the various selection of healthy and haute cuisine, she was very enthusiastic about the insect burgers. Me? Not so much. Definitely not, knowing that 30% of the burger is actually made out of mealworms, and having Googled them to know what a mealworm looks like. Well, I Googled it a bit too late, I’m glad I did, or I wouldn’t have stuck to my promise. Yes, I ate the notorious burger prepared by . And to be honest. It actually tasted very good. The one I ate is rumored to be more appreciated by woman. In between a ciabatta, with a bit of iceberg lettuce, a slice of brie and a dash of yoghurt dressing, the so called bugs burger, tasted quite delicious. I think I’ll be having another one next year.

I’ll take you to the liquor shop

After burgers comes dessert and after dessert comes the liquor. So up we went to the liquor cabin! I certainly don’t mean to teach bad habits, but the liquor cabin looked magnificent. The bartender didn’t look too bad either (wink), but let’s stick to business. The big golden Louboutin-looking (red glow on the inside) spotlights hanging above the bar gave a luxurious feel to it. And so did the list of cocktails they were serving.

From the garden to the wardrobe

Up next in my attempt at guiding you through this wonderful open air house party, is the garden. The ideal place to sit down and chill with your (new made) friends and admire a photo series by street photographer Artur Eranosian pinned on a wall at the entrance. It was like visiting an exposition at a museum on one single canvas. Those who were curious if their new found friends may be a possible match, could pay a little visit to the fortune teller who installed her little camper in a cozy little corner of the garden. Surrounded by hammocks and couch swings to enjoy the afterglow of the good fortune she promised you.

I however was more interested in what secrets there were to find in the wardrobe. How they were beautiful. , which is an Antwerp based concept store, had installed various little stands with products they normally sell at their store. The range was very extensive. There were suede shoes, funky shirts, vintage radio’s and even self-made posters and postcards. Might I say “a little shopping paradise”, as you could also pimp your hair by the Young Ones Redken hairdressers.
